Chairman’s update!

Schuco Chairman – Paul Huttrer

When I look back at the first quarter of 2012, I feel as though my feet have hardly touched the ground. My trusty suitcase has accompanied me so far to IMCAS in Paris, to AAD in San Diego, the AMWC in Monaco, and the CONMED factory in Denver. In a rare moment of downtime, I even managed to fit in a visit to my daughter Chantal, who is studying in Florence. However, my travels haven’t all been overseas, I was back on home soil in time to back up our key sponsorship of this year’s Primary Care Exhibition at the NEC. Birmingham may not at first seem as glamorous as Paris or the USA, but Primary Care represented a big investment for us, and was a great opportunity to catch up with current partners and clients, as well as to look at exciting new technologies and talk with important players in our industry.

One of the key areas of development for us, is the field of aesthetics, where we’re working on a number of individual projects and building our corporate strategy to encompass this rapidly developing and exciting industry. On a personal level, I’m pleased to find that many of our existing dermatology clients, familiar to us through their work in the early detection of skin cancer and skin surgery, are also either firmly established, or developing into aesthetics. It seems we’re now ideally placed to provide the complete bridge between the two fields!

Overall, I have to describe my mood at the moment as very excited. We’ve begun putting into place a lot of plans we’ve been working on for a long time, and things are really beginning to happen. The next stages represent a great deal of blood sweat and tears on behalf of our existing team and will give us an excellent basis on which to grow.

The team is growing all the time, and I’m delighted to welcome Sam Lewin in outbound sales, Chris Haggart in logistics support, Julie Pelta in marketing and Simon Alesbury in our sales team. We’re also all very happy that Dr Tony Felton has agreed to become our Clinical Director, bringing with him not only his considerable experience as a GP and throughout the medical industry, but also a lot of clear thinking and ideas, which I’m confident will steer us in the right direction as we grow.

Lastly, I have to talk about someone who has literally changed my life. Carol Walsh is my new PA. I can’t imagine how I managed without her. As you get in touch with us over the coming months, you will almost certainly encounter Carol, and I know she’ll make you welcome and help you as efficiently as she helps me.

Primary Care 2012

Schuco were  proud sponsors of this years Primary Care event held at the NEC in Birmingham. Last year the event attracted over 5800 delegates but this year over 6000 delegates visited the conference (official figures to be announced shortly) which offered informative seminars and a range of medical and lifestyle related exhibitors; from the Society of teachers of the Alexander technique, to comfortable shoes for nurses, medical products, cancer charities and much more.

Crowds gather for a MoleMate demo

The Schuco stand featured all of our latest advances in medical technology as wells as a few old favourites, such as DermLite dermatoscopes, the Hyfrecator and the dermojet, we even had a minor surgery “play area”. But it was the MoleMate that once again proved the most appealing technology to our Primary Care professionals and fellow exhibitors. Our MoleMate expert Wayne Hicks informed and educated a number of delegates from a variety of professions, reinforcing the importance and showing the demand for mole screening.

Martin Harvey answers questions

Speaking of old favourites, the very lovely Martin Harvey was on our stand to meet and answer questions from fellow podiatrists. Martin even spared some time to talk in one of the mini workshops on UV scanning of skin, as well as hold a full lecture on the human nail!

Dr Spooner shows off the dermojet

Dr Laurel Spooner very kindly pointed members of the ASPC (Association of Surgeons in Primary Care) to our stand for demo’s on the dermojet and one of our new products, Injex.

This year we were delighted to be joined by Skin cancer charity SKCIN. SKCIN’s Richard Clifford and Charlotte Fionda introduced delegates to their new sun safe superstar George. Aimed at 5-7 year olds George educates school children about the importance of sun safety at a very young age. To find out more about the charity or George please visit http://www.skcin.org or http://www.sunsafeschools.co.uk.

Schuco’s Anthony Hubbard and SKCIN’s Richard Clifford

Schuco would like to thank SKCIN, Martin Harvey, Dr Laurel Spooner and the ASPC as well as Sterling events for their time and support at the conference, and we would like to extend our gratitude to all of the delegates that visited our stand at the exhibition. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!

Schuco launch Medical Z garments range

Schuco are proud to announce a UK distribution partnership with Medical Z.

Established over 25 years ago Medical Z are Europe’s largest manufacturer of scar management products, priding themselves on achieveing positive results and optimum wound healing in all patients. Schuco will be offering the Medical Z range for post surgical compression garments including the popular ZBra as well as custom made burns garments and scar management gels and will feature these products as the main dispaly at the BAPRAS summer scientific meeting in Newcastle on the 11th-13th July and at this years BAD exhibition in Birmingham 3rd-5th July.

ZBra

Plastic surgery garments: A wide variety of cosmetic surgery procedures require scientifically calibrated pressure therapy. For example, in the case of liposuction, there is formation of post-operative edema; an effect called “waves” that may also appear. In these cases a calculated compression is necessary to minimize the effects while allowing all muscular movement.

Liposuction garments

Plastic surgery garments – Medical Z offer a large array of garments available in different sizes as well as two different fabrics: CoolMax and standard line both giving the required pressure for post surgical procedures.  CoolMax is a revolutionary fabric that is more breathable and comfortable than any other garment available today. It is embedded with a moisture management system that pulls moisture to the outer layer of fabric and dries quickly. The fabric is specifically engineered with a four channel fiber system that allows air to easily permeate the garment. CoolMax fabric is ideal for post operative garments since these garments are recommended to be worn 6 to 8 weeks immediately following the surgery.

CoolMax technology

Custom burns garments:Medical Z’s custom made burn garments are made up of the most cost effective fabric that lasts and are compatible with oils and lotions. The customised pressure garments made especially for burn victims are lighter, cooler and smoother. Medical Z understand that no two patients are alike  so have developed their range to offer custom garment choices that fit every patients needs maximising comfort.

Scar management gels: Medigel Z Technology.
Various studies have shown the effectiveness of polymers to prevent the formation of scars. Medigel is a combination of triblock co-polymer and H1 Class mineral oil. Originally devised for the treatment of scars for burn victims, Medigel now has a wider range of usage for surgeries that includes aesthetics, orthopedics and podiatry. Utilizing the same technology used for Medigel Z, The Medipatch Gel Z was introduced. One of the advantage of is self-adhesiveness for repetitive applications. In addition to it’s scar treatment properties.
